How to Better Handle a Car Accident

Car accidents can be traumatic, but you can manage easier when you take a few deep breaths. When you can stay calm, you have an easier time figuring out if you are injured, getting help for anyone involved, and staying safe while you wait for the police to arrive.

Keep yourself safe by getting out of danger before you start talking with any of the others involved in the accident. If possible, move your car out of the line of traffic. Look over the scene, and take pictures if you have the time. You will need to know what cars were involved and who owns each one.

Exchange information with other drivers, gathering insurance information and full names. If there are any witnesses to the accident, write down their names too. If you can see visual damage to your vehicle, take pictures. Look around you and look for road hazards or weather conditions that may have led to the accident.
